Welcome to the first two episodes of RCP TV. The future is now! Well I guess techinically the past is now since all of these things already happened. I digress.

Long Lost Seven Inch Club #2

The Picts were a band that I first saw in Lake Charles when my band at the time played with them at the Third Coast Unity Festival. I believe they were originally from Shreveport but then relocated to New Orleans. While in New Orleans some members were part of Antarctica vs. the World. After Katrina left them scattered across the country they called it the infamous indefinite hiatus. Some went on to form Dead On.

I hadn't listened to this record in years before ripping it, but when I put it on I still remembered the lyrics and changes. 5 fast to the point songs about cops, jocks, and everything else in between, not that there's a huge gap between those two. Check it out!

Long Lost Seven Inch Club #1

I think the first record that really grabbed me was Household Name Records Number 5. The Kenmores's Potty Training on one side and the Griswalds's Legalize the Stupid e.p. on the other. I remember Brandon telling me that the Kenmores had a 7" and I of course had to have it. At this point all the records I had were from second hand shops or were bigger bands, but now a band from my town had a record? Wow! And the fact that there were 2 bands (!) on the same record. The concept of a split was totally foreign to me. But it made so much sense. I had never heard of the Griswalds. They were a band from England who are apparently still playing music which excites me to no end. One local band and another from England. My first split. I never thought $3 could change me the way it did.

So as far as I know these songs are lost. And that sickens me. So I decided I would rip them and make them available as the first installment of the Long Lost Seven Inch Club. I think one of the most important things in life is the punk rock 7 inch. I'm not entirely sure why they grab me the way they do, probably has something to do with the fact that they are usually about 3 bucks. This record was a pivotal part of the development of my musical tastes, so I would like to share it with you.

Decline of Western Civilization Part 3

This is Penelope Spheeris's third installment of the Decline of Western Civilization series. While the first dealt with the LA hardcore scene in 1980 and the second about the LA metal scene in the mid 80s, this movie is about the gutter punk kids from 1998. It is unavailable on DVD or even VHS for that matter, so when I stumbled upon this I figured it was my patriotic duty to make sure everyone who checked the zine had a chance to watch it. Whadaya think?

Zombi - Surface to Air

What happens when you lock a couple of dudes from Pittsburgh in a dungeon and blast nothing but John Carpenter soundtracks into their ears? Presumably, they make a very Jack Burton-esque escape, form a progressive rock-duo known to the public as Zombi, and put out a record called Surface to Air. If you've ever needed your own post-apocalyptic soundtrack to make being stuck in traffic seem way more epic than it really is, this record is for you.

When the record starts playing, it is damn near impossible to feel like you are stuck inside some strange sci-fi flick you randomly grabbed off the shelf at a video store. This is not too strange taken that they have scored a few movies according to their discography. The album feels like a movie on its own, I’m pretty sure you can close your eyes and listen to this record and watch it unfold.

Might I suggest... put this on and pop on some 2 player Super Nintendo. It doesn’t really matter what you play, it will make the gaming experience much more enjoyable. I had the pleasure of listening to it while playing King of Monsters... oh man. Smash TV is another good one. I guess as long as you and a buddy can destroy a bunch of stuff while listening to this record, it’s a bonus.

the Y Equals in San Antonio

So on the first justinbailey tour we played three shows in Texas. The second of those three was in San Antonio. It was a pretty cool show that also included scoring a handful of unsolicited herb from a random stranger across the street from the club whom I met while purchasing a set of dominoes that kept us entertained for many months to come. We played at Patsy's Ice House with these guys, the Y Equals. They were one of the best bands we played with on that tour, and luckily we had the pleasure of throwing them a show in town before they called it quits earlier this year. According to theirspace they are on "an indefinite hiatus that exists for bands that refuse to break up." A few of the members are in a new band called Czars, check them out here. You can score some Y Equals stuff off their myspace page. It would be in your best interest to do so.

This is We the Living before they had to change their name to We are the Living because of some other band who decided to call themselves We the Living well after We (are) the Living had been making music. Whatever. Anyway, this song is Mediation and it can be heard on their side of the split with justinbailey, and I think they re-recorded it for their new album whenever they decide to release that. Enjoy.

So I was going through some old tapes and found this gem.

Yeah that's justinbailey playing "Can't You See" which was never recorded. Also, that's Ryan on third guitar. This had to be some time in 2002 because I had some New Year's Eve welcoming 2003 fireworks after the show. Pretty cool eh?
